magdas Hotel am Prater - F&B Concept

If you take a walk in the area of the Vienna Prater, you will discover a former home for the elderly, owned by Caritas, which has been turned into a hotel a couple of years ago and is now closed. In 2023, our client magdas asked us to develop the F&B concept for this hotel, which will be reopened in 2027.

  • Concept creation, product and service design, space planning

The challenge in this project is two-fold: on the one hand, we are to create a distinctive user experience for a variety of guests (hotel and seminar guests, day trippers, tourists and passers-by), while at the same time we need to provide a caring, supportive and easy-to-navigate work environment for the employees.

You have to know: magdas prides itself on employing and professionally educating refugees. Obviously, most of these people have suffered quite traumatic experiences, and their work space should help them move past this eventually. At the same time, magdas employees bring a lot to the table - their culture, their food traditions, their dedication and willingness to become part of the local community.

So, what are we doing?

  • We are creating an F&B offering that reflects magdas values and their employees’ cultural heritag; it will be easily adaptable and at can be delivered by untrained staff.

  • We are designing the “behind the scenes” work space and corresponding workflows to ensure that employees will not be (mentally) overwhelmed and (physically) exhausted.

  • We are reviewing the service offering and spatial set up of the entire inner and outer ground floor of the hotel and consulting on design changes.

As this project is still ongoing, we will keep you posted with updates in the next months.
